You Reap What You Sow: Right-Wing Fanatics Force Ukraine Into ‘State of Energy Emergency’

Not the first time. And certainly not the last.

Kiev is in a bit of a pickle.

Since the violent coup that ushered in the "Revolution of Dignity", Poroshenko has been unwilling (or too afraid) to rein in the far-right Neanderthals — the "muscle" that makes Ukraine so "free" and awful.

Of course, it was a real stroke of genius to send the neo-Nazis to their deaths in East Ukraine. But many are still alive. And they are very, very angry.

And now these goon squads have actually forced Ukraine into a "state of energy emergency":

Ukraine on Wednesday announced a state of emergency for its energy sector that could result in rolling blackouts as officials try to sharply curtail electricity use by consumers.

The decision was made at a cabinet meeting to work out a response to a two-week strike by ultranationalists who have blocked a railroad between the coal-producing eastern regions and the rest of Ukraine.

[...]

Ukraine's pro-Western leaders have refused to break up the railroad blockades for fear of sparking a backlash among a large proportion of the population that is sympathetic to the protesters' cause.

In other words: Poroshenko would rather cut Ukraine's power than defy the far-right fanatics who could march on Kiev tomorrow. Sounds like a thriving democracy!

Of course, this isn't the first time that Ukraine has suffered from rolling blackouts, thanks largely in part to its completely incompetent government.

And it certainly won't be the last.

We understand how useful gangs of armed thugs can be for a soulless oligarch such as Poroshenko. But if you can't control them, what's the point? Now they're just a liability.

You reap what you sow.
