"The American Century"

Compare and contrast this nugget of horror from today's Guardian...
More than 130 suspected Nazi war criminals, SS guards and others who may have participated in atrocities during the second world war collected US$20.2m in retirement benefits, according to the US inspector general of social security.

...with this disgraceful statistic:
More than 16 million children in the United States – 22% of all children – live in families with incomes below the federal poverty level – $23,550 a year for a family of four. Research shows that, on average, families need an income of about twice that level to cover basic expenses. Using this standard, 45% of children live in low-income families.
It's over. The spirital doom that Martin Luther King, Jr. warned about so many years ago is upon us. It arrived long ago, but now it's just comically transparent.
Can we spend less on retired Nazis, and more on feeding hungry children? Is that so much to ask?
By the way, do you know about Operation Paperclip?
