The Oligarchs are in Checkmate

In the last update I focused on the consequences of having so many oligarch troops surrounded in Ilovaysk.

Most Ukrainians now know the situation there. The increasingly desperate cries of relatives of trapped soldiers have now become a major political issue for the central government.

A permanent cease fire is now a real possibility, which explains the media reports about this.

The reason is also explained in what happened in Ilovaysk a few hours ago.

  • The humanitarian corridor created by the rebels, for the Kiev troops, has revealed another reckless action done by the punitive battalions directed by Ukraine's most powerful oligarch, and defacto warlord, Igor Kolomoisky. During the evacuation the rebels were attacked by the oligarch forces. The inevitable reaction caused deaths, injuries and POWs in huge quantity as confirmed by Kiev.

In the next few days some significant events could be:

  • The liberation of the airport in Donetsk.
  • A new encirclement, this time in Debalcevo and Uglegorsk, that will most likely stop the shelling of Donetsk by Ukrainian Army.
  • The definitive liberation of Lutugino that will put a stop on Kiev's attempt to isolate and cut off Lugansk.

Many of the situations described above are related to the outcome of the negotiations in Minsk on the 5th of September between Putin and Poroshenko.

It is not a coincidence that one of the conditions set by Putin for a cease-fire is that the Resistance stops gaining territories, a sign that the conquest of the Zaporozhye region is a goal that is realistically accomplishable for the rebels.
