Over the last few days, around 700 Ukrainian soldiers have surrendered. Forces of the Donetsk People's Republic are checking their involvement in war crimes.

A Russian correspondent talks with some of them in this video.

These POWs had somehow miraculously survived the meat grinder near Ilovaisk, where they spent a few days encircled. Ukrainian authorities and military commanders had forgotten about them and de facto betrayed them.

Reports coming out from soldiers who returned home said that the government sent the army to an almost certain death.  At the slightest danger the commanders were the first to throw away their weapons and flee, leaving their men to be chewed up by Resistance artillery.

In this video, one of the soldiers describes the reaction of the local population. The residents of the besieged cities were, to put it mildly, not pleased with the presence of the soldiers. One soldier said: They gave us the middle finger and said "Why are you here?" For them we are punishers. They called us "Banderas", "Fascists", "Punishers".
