MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Ukraine's Naftogaz has made an advance payment for gas to be supplied in April by Russian gas company Gazprom, the Ukrainian company press service said Thursday.
On Tuesday, Russian energy company Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov, said that Ukraine’s Naftogaz had not yet made contracted prepayments for April supplies. The delay was confirmed by Ukraine Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn.

“Yesterday we transferred $30 million in advance payment to Gazprom,” Naftogaz told RIA Novosti.
Under the so-called winter package deal mediated by the European Union and signed by Gazprom and Naftogaz in 2014, Kiev was granted a $100 discount for price per 1,000 cubic meters of Russian gas, but was obligated to pay for deliveries in advance.
The deal was set to expire on March 31, but the Russian government extended it Tuesday for an three additional months in consideration of Ukraine's failing economy.
