Ukraine Pays 20% More for Russian Gas to EU Than It Would Have Paid to Russia

The burning hatred of Gazprom keeps Kiev warm in the winter

Anti-Russian posturing costs money. Worse in the case of Ukraine it costs money you don't have.

Having refused Gazprom's offer to buy its winter gas for $186 per 1,000 cubic meters the Europe's poorest nation is now buying reverse flow gas from the EU at the price of $230.

But hey at least they don't have to deal with Russians. Except Russian gas doesn't magically become EU gas because you take it on a tour of Poland and Slovakia and Moscow in the end still gets its cut -- without having to deal with the quarrelsome Kiev.

At the danger of winning the most obvious statement of the year award; Ukrainians are not being served well by its "leaders".
