Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to France following the terror attacks in Paris, the news agency Interfax quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.

'Russia strongly condemns these inhuman murders and is ready to provide any assistance in the investigation of these terrorist offenses,' Mr. Peskov said, according to Interfax.

The spokeswoman for Russia’s foreign ministry relayed a statement of solidarity with France early Saturday morning after news broke of the attacks in Paris.

'I’m reading terrible news from Paris,' said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova in a Facebook statement posted around 1:30 a.m. Moscow time. 'The number of casualties from explosions and gunfire is rising.'

Added Ms. Zakharova: 'Parisians, France, we’re with you! Stay strong. Your pain is our pain.'
