All the Outraged Incoherent Trump-Hitler Rants Are Getting Old

Comedian Louis C. K. plays the Hitler card and urges fans to rescind support for Trump

I am sick to death of listening to Americans complain about Donald Trump.

And before anyone starts, no, I am not personally a Trump supporter. I like his Russia policy, and that's about it. At first, I was getting no end of amusement out of Trump’s campaign, but watching Americans’ apoplectic fits and listening to them scream about how Trump is an authoritarian dictator-in-waiting every time he says something reprehensible is getting a little old.

I was in Russia in 1994. They were poor and it was hilarious

I was in Russia in 1994. They were poor and it was hilarious

Their outrage is meaningless because: a) they have absolutely no idea what it is like to actually have live under one of the actual dictators the U.S. has installed or supported abroad b) Trump’s rise is due to a variety of factors, and hating him and assuming his supporters are sub-intelligent is intellectually lazy and c) Trump’s campaign gives armchair political wonks and slacktivists an easy opportunity to feel superior by opposing Trump, so if somebody is allowed to spend their work morning on Facebook sharing photoshopped anti-Trump memes, I guess he really isn’t causing them any personal harm.

So, that out of the way, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes when I read Louis C.K.’s rambling, myopic soliloquy about the Trumpster. He’s certainly entitled to his opinion, but why do we have to hear about everyone “speaking out against Trump” ad nauseum?

In his e-mail postscript, Mr. C.K. begs his fans not to vote for Trump, although it is really not his or anyone else’s business or place to tell other adults how to vote, and to be fair, he acknowledges as much.

His reason for this diatribe? Trump is Hitler. Sorry, Putin. Better luck reclaiming the title next year.

Any time anyone here in the US of A compares Hitler to anyone else, it’s a newsworthy event. It’s a simple formula:

 1. Be a celebrity or politician.

 2. Compare someone for whom you have a personal dislike to Hitler.

 3. Watch yourself become a trending topic.

Mr. C.K. went on a Russophobic rant not too long ago, which really showed how racist and ignorant he is with regard to Russia. So, I am really not sure what he is doing calling someone else racist, but he’s just a comedian, right?

Here, he demonstrates he knows about as much about Hitler as he does about Russia. Which is nothing.

And really I'm not saying he's evil or a monster. In fact I don't think Hitler was.

Aside from, you know. The genocide. Hitler was a stand-up guy.

Please stop it with voting for Trump. It was funny for a little while. But the guy is Hitler. And by that I mean that we are being Germany in the 30s.

The Nazi Party was founded in 1920, but I understand that people get dates all muddled.

American democracy is broken enough that a guy like that could really fuck things up. That’s how Hitler got there. He was voted into power by a fatigued nation and when he got inside, he did all his Hitler things and no one could stop him.

Actually, after the 1932 elections, the Nazis lost 34 seats in the Reichstag, and their popular vote had fallen from 37.3% to 33.1%.

Then C.K. rambles for a few paragraphs about how Donald Trump is a fake and doesn’t really believe anything he says:

Remember that Trump entered this race by saying that McCain is not a war hero. A guy who was shot down, body broken and kept in a POW camp for years. Trump said “I prefer the guys who don't get caught.” Why did he say that? Not because he meant it or because it was important to say. He said it because he's a bully and every bully knows that when you enter a new school yard, you go to the toughest most respected guy on the yard and you punch him in the nose.

So please listen to fellow conservatives. But more importantly, listen to Trump. Listen to all of it. Everything he says. If you liked when he said that “torture works” then go look at where he took it back the next day. He's a fucking liar.

What C.K. missed in his Hitler comparison that should be obvious to the media slaves competing to heap praise on him, is that Hitler meant what he said, and he acted on it.

He hated Jews, and so he ordered their persecution and extermination.

He hated Slavs, and Russians in particular (hey, you have something in common with Hitler, CK), thought they were subhuman, and had no right to their vast lands and resources. So he invaded the Soviet Union.

He hated Communists, so he put them in concentration camps.

He hated Gypsies, so he rounded them up, too.

He hated disabled people, so he thought they should be sterilized and/or killed.

Hitler wasn’t up there waving his arms around and shouting about the Master Race because he thought it was fresh, original, funny, and shocking, or because he wanted attention. Neither did his supporters. He actually had a very detailed ideology that he followed. You can read all about it, C.K., because I hear he wrote a book.

The problem with saying that guys like that are monsters is that we don't see them coming when they turn out to be human, which they all are.

Plenty of people thought Hitler was dangerous. However, plenty of European citizens and leaders went along with Nazism because they thought Hitler was right. Plenty of Americans and Britons supported Hitler, Mussolini, and Franco because they genuinely approved of fascism. It wasn't because they thought fascism was an all-inclusive resort where everyone got to ride a unicorn. They went into it with their eyes wide open.

It’s true that Donald Trump and Hitler are/were both humans, but there is a pretty good chance that Hitler was a psychopath and not your Average Joe.

I'm an idiot and I'm sure a bunch of you are very annoyed by this. Fucking celebrity with an opinion. I swear this isn't really a political opinion. You don't want to know my political opinions.

Passive aggressive much? Have an opinion. But also make certain that it’s based somewhere in fact and reason, especially because you’re a celebrity, which makes people more likely to listen to you, and do things like make your post go viral.

Please pick someone else. Like John Kasich. I mean that guy seems okay.

If Mr. C.K. likes Bernie and HIllary as he states, he can't possibly think Kasich is "okay." Kasich is a climate change denier, anti-union, anti-choice, pro-fracking, pro-Big Oil, and anti-public schools. He is not a moderateHe just seems okay because Cruz and Rubio are Colonel Bat Guano insane.

In fact, if you do vote for Trump, at least look at him very carefully first. You owe that to the rest of us. Know and understand who he is. Spend one hour on google and just read it all.

See above. I am pretty certain Mr. C.K. didn’t spend an hour googling Kasich before he went on this bender. Perhaps he should.

While he’s on his computer, I challenge Louis C.K. to spend an hour googling Hillary Clinton. Then I would like him to write an e-mail to his fans explaining why she would be a better choice than Trump.

Actions speak louder than words, but apparently not in this election cycle. People tend to get the government they deserve. Americans are spending the vast majority of their time making amusing memes about Trump as an Oompa Loompa and not taking a serious look at all the candidates and their, for the most part, atrocious records. So, if a reality television star becomes president, I guess we have it coming.
