In Russia, Christmas is celebrated from the 6th (Christmas Eve) to the 7th (Christmas day) of January.
President Putin has a tradition of spending Christmas outside of Moscow. This time he celebrated in St. Petersburg at one of the oldest churches in the city.

The Church of Saints Simeon and Anna is commonly known as the church of his father's baptism. During this visit he also gifted an icon to the church.
