For the question of why Europeans don’t like Russians, there is always a great answer. Because they are simply Russian! Because Mr Putin is Mr Evil and all foreign policy of Russia is wrong! There are too many reason to hate them. Just select one agreeable to you and you will be in line with right-thinking opinion in the EU.
Currently Russophobia is de rigueur, and to be honest, it won’t be eradicated in the near future. But maybe it’s time to understand that all these phobias can easily change the prefix and at any moment a persecuting nation can find itself in Russia’s shoes.
Thus, in Great Britain, anti-immigrant feeling suddenly ballooned following Brexit. The British people are advising migrants from Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, who are numerous there, to pack their bags and return to their native countries.
In the Baltics, in Latvia in particular, Russian people face such discrimination at every step. And it is becoming worse by the day, in spite of the efforts of the Russians who live there to try and protect their rights. Attempts to bar Russians from public office, even under legal bases, and generally infringing on their personal rights, are an increasing part of the daily lives of Russians living abroad.
