You’re Safer in Moscow than in New York, London or Paris

Thus spoke Moscow Mayor  Sergey Sobyanin during a meeting with the collegium of the municipal department of internal affairs, according to the Russian news agency, Interfax.

“Compared to some of the other capitals, Moscow still looks good”, — said Interfax, citing the Mayor. “According to the latest world safety rating, Moscow’s crime rate is very low, lower, in fact than  in New-York, London or Paris.

Noting that foreign tourists say it’s safe to walk the streets both in daytime and at night,  Sobyanin remarked that Moscow is almost as safe as Berlin – recognized as one of the most peaceful European cities”.

“That’s why the number of foreign tourists grows year on year”, he said, noting that 2015 saw twice as many foreign tourists and 40% more visitors from other parts of Russia to Moscow during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
