Just barbaric behavior from out-of-control US-backed fighters or a deliberate attempt to further raise tensions?

UPDATE:  Rt.com is now reporting that one of the pilots not only survived, but was rescued by a Syrian army unit.

This is an extraordinary development, bound to further fray nerves in an already highly volatile situation.

The barbaric behavior of Turkish and American proxy forces in Syria seem to reinforce Russian assertions that the US is backing bloodthirsty terrorists, and nothing that could be described as a "regular army".

In the video below, a voice is shouting, "don't fire, don't fire - let's take them prisoner" as machine gun volleys erupt.  Other voices are shouting "God is great!", and jubilant laughter fills the background.

Interestingly, the New York Times in their front page analysis of the plane shoot down, live on NYT as of the publishing of this article, mention the executions as a minor detail, buried in paragraph 18!, of their rambling and seriously misleading analysis.  Give the Times a prize for the understatement of the day:  This "may make matters worse".

Under the Geneva conventions, pilots ejecting from airplanes are to be treated as non-violent surrendering combatants.  In other words, this is a war crime, plain and simple.

The Russian general staff is reporting that they have additional information that one of the pilots was wounded but still alive when he landed, and was finished-off by Turkey's fighters when they reached him.

Putin will now have to deal with a massive outcry at home demanding retribution.  There will be lengthy television profiles of the pilots, their families, and their heroic sacrifice.

It seems like someone is doing everything they can to start a war - but who could it be?

and here is the aftermath - the "moderate terrorists" gathered around the lifeless pilot.  (Warning - graphic video)
