The transportation war that Ukrainian radicals have been waging against Russia since last February, by blocking transit of Russian trucks through Ukrainian territory has taken a new turn. Recently, a seemingly strange but very interesting incident took place, reports popular Ukrainian blogger Yurasumy.

In response to a blockade of their Russian colleagues by the nationalist ‘Freedom’ party, Ukrainian truckers blocked the same highway to express solidarity with their Russian counterparts.

On March 7th at about 7:00 p.m., Ukrainian truckers blocked traffic at Malyi Podleski (a village about 18 km from Lvov), in protest against the blocking of fifteen Russian trucks. Earlier and in response to the Ukrainian nationalists’ road blockage, Russia had countered by blocking Ukrainian trucks on its territory.

Both Russian and Ukrainian truckers lose income due to these actions taken by Ukrainian ‘patriots’, which is why we saw class solidarity expressed in this manner for the first time in post-Maidan Ukraine. As soon as the ‘freedom’ nationalists unblocked the Russian trucks, the Ukrainian truckers called off their action.
