Russia doesn’t just talk about its claims to the Arctic. It’s already preparing the next generation to act on it.
This slick video seeks to instil in Russian youth a sense of noble and inspiring mission such as to take no heed of the environmental difficulties that may occasion a tough mission.
Perhaps the makers are tapping into Russia’s myths, that of possessing some sort of historical mission before which personal desires and comfort are subordinated. That and a sort of frontier folklore akin to the American frontier, but this time the northern, Arctic frontier that is to be conquered.
Whatever the case, Russia’s serious about the arctic.
