Russia Stops Gas Supplies to Ukraine

Gazprom has confirmed it has halted gas supplies to Ukraine after Kiev failed to pre-pay for July

Russian energy giant Gazprom says that gas deliveries to Ukraine have been halted due to a breakdown in talks with Kiev regarding pricing.

Ukraine's Naftogaz confirmed that the EU-brokered talks aimed at keeping gas supplies running for the next six months were unsuccessful. The company announced on Tuesday:

Kiev can ask its fracking buddies for a discount...

Since the additional agreement between Naftogaz and Gazprom is expiring on 30 June, and the terms of further Russian gas deliveries to Ukraine were not agreed at today's trilateral talks in Vienna, Naftogaz is suspending purchases from the Russian company.

However, the Ukrainian firm said that it would continue transporting Russian gas to other parts of Europe. But if Kiev continues to refuse to pay its bills, none of the gas will be going to Ukraine.

Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller insists that his company "won't deliver gas to Ukraine at any price without prepayment".

Considering that Ukraine owes Gazprom billions and billions of dollars, one can hardly blame them for demanding prepayment on heavily discounted gas.

Or is this just another example of "Russian aggression"?
