Referring to a source in the Military-industrial Complex of Russia, Izvestia reported that the installation will be able to determine the launch of hypersonic, cruise and ballistic missiles from the Mediterranean and Black Seas.
The representative of the Russian military and industrial circles explained that the station will be equipped with decimeter-wave hardware that will allow it to increase the efficiency of the radar in Armavir which operates in the decimeter range.

The Radar Station will provide an all-round defense of Russia against missile attacks. For example, an American Tomahawk missile could be launched from the Mediterranean Sea and reach Moscow in 120 minutes, enough time to intercept it.
The Radar station ‘Dnepr’ hasn’t operated for more than ten years. After the collapse of the USSR, the installation belonged to the Ukraine. Russia operated the station on a lease for some time but later the agreement was terminated at Kiev’s initiative.
