The Caucasus Republic of Chechnya, scene of two terrible separatist wars, is now a state-of-the-art anti-terrorist training area. Under the young leader Ramzan Kadyrov, it is a unique addition to President Putin’s overarching strategy that recently racked up stunning success against ISIS in Syria.

And here’s what Ramzan Kadyrov had to say to famous Russian writer Alexander Prokhanov who visited Checnnya this month

On military preparations

"We are ready for the fight. We learn all the time. We send our experts to study in different countries – in Israel, Europe, Arabic countries – to learn about technologies, possibilities. We share a little, and then they share a little. We learned a lot of useful information from this sharing of experiences. The police officers of our republic won the Russian Championship and World Championship where 43 states participated including America, Canada and China."

On his political philosophy

"Putin is the man I owe my life to. He replaced everything for me at the hardest time in my people’s life and at the most difficult situation in my life. And he trusted me. I will never forget his credibility. It’s an honour for me.

We are citizens of Russia and that’s the choice of our peoples. We voted for that. We want to live as part of the Russian Federation! That’s it!"
