There are many, many reasons, 50 at least, why this is the case, so we have decided to list them. Here are the first six. Stay tuned, this is going to a series of posts.
1. Eastern Ukrainians support Russia and are 30-40% of Ukraine’s population.
2. Russia will not let the east Ukrainian rebels be defeated.
3. The west will not fight for Ukraine or help Ukraine defeat the rebels. Obama and NATO have ruled both out. They won’t even give Ukraine weapons.
4. Russia is the main market for Ukraine’s industries, which have no alternative market.
5. Ukraine’s energy mix is gas and coal. Russia supplies the gas. The rebels have the coal. Ukraine has no other real source of supply and no money to pay if it did.
6. Ukraine is bankrupt, its currency is collapsing and cannot survive economically without Russia.
