Barack Obama called Vladimir Putin on February 14th. An encouraging move. Other than wishing the Russian leader happy Valentine's Day (obviously) they assuredly had a lot of issues to talk about.
Exactly what was said though, is hard to determine. The press services of the Kremlin and the White House related different versions of the main themes of the conversation:
