Russians have celebrated the second anniversary of Crimea's return to Russia

Ever the consummate tactician, President Putin timed his visit to the twelve mile-long bridge being built to physically unite Crimea with Russia to the second anniversary of the peninsula’s return to the Motherland, speaking about its current and historical importance.

The main event being the concert and rally at the Red Square, across the Eurasian continent, Russians celebrated the reunion of this Russian-speaking area with the mother country - even as far away as the Pacific coast. Sevastopol has been home to the Russian Mediterranean Fleet since the time of Catherine the Great.
