Have you ever heard of Valaam? Probably not, although it is quite famous among Orthodox pilgrims in Russia and neighboring countries - it attracts about 100,000 tourists every year.

Valaam is very picturesque, and you can see it on many paintings produced by prominent Russian artists like Shishkin, Roerich, and so on. Also, music holds a special place in the life of the Holy Island. In the middle of summer, an International Festival of Spiritual Music entitled “The Enlightener” takes place on Valaam.

This island is a very popular spiritual and touristic spot due to its beautiful nature and the feeling of eternal peace peculiar to this place.

Once you are there, it becomes obvious why more than 1,000 years ago Russian Prince Vladimir chose Orthodoxy for the country over other religions.
