One Chart That Shows How Maidan Screwed the Average Ukrainian

The revolution of dignity has left Ukrainians with miserly purchasing power and staggering inflation

This one chart sums up the "post-Maidan" reality for most Ukrainians. It show average monthly salaries in hryvnias and dollars, by city, between December '13 and March '15. Look at the staggering difference. It's true that salaries have increased across the board, but factor in the fact that consumer prices were up 60.9% higher in April from the year before, with 14% inflation in the first four months of 2015 alone, and you begin to understand the grim financial situation facing your average Ukrainian. And salaries definitely haven't increased 60% to compensate for inflation...

No EU membership, just as much — if not more — corruption, a bloody civil war, looming default, ultra-nationalists under every rock....the list goes on forever. We wish there was one chart that could really show what Ukraine is facing. For now, this is still sobering:
