Trump to Meet the 'Other' World Leader Wiretapped by Obama

Trump and Merkel will have a lot to talk about

The western media is gearing up for what should be a highly entertaining summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the White House on Tuesday.

According to an anonymous official quoted by Reuters (so probably just a random intern at the Reuters mail room), "The president will be very interested in hearing the chancellor’s views on her experience interacting with Putin. He's going to be very interested in hearing her insights on what it’s like to deal with the Russians."

Yes, because Merkel is undefeated in the diplomatic boxing ring, and Putin cowers in fear every time he hears her name.

We'll let that slight indiscretion slide.

Here are some more details about the planned meeting:

Merkel will visit the White House on Tuesday for talks with Trump and a joint news conference in what will be their first face-to-face meeting since the new U.S. president took power on Jan. 20.

They are expected to discuss Germany's level of defense spending for the NATO alliance, the Ukraine conflict, Syrian refugees, the European Union and a host of other issues, said three senior Trump administration officials who briefed reporters.

The two leaders are also expected to exchange stories about being wiretapped by Obama. It's the perfect ice-breaker:

Enjoy your meeting with Merkel, Mr. President. Just remember to lock all the dogs in the Red Room before she arrives:
