UPDATE! It's happened. Saakashvili is now governor of the Odessa region

Georgia's former President Mikhail Saakashvili, wanted by his country's prosecutors for embezzlement, abuse of power and politically-motivated attacks, has been appointed governor of Ukraine's Odessa region.

Yes, wanted felon and former Brooklyn hipster Mikheil Saakashvili is now a citizen of Ukraine — because you need to be a Ukrainian citizen before you can be a Ukrainian governor. This is not a joke, in case you were wondering

On Friday, the former Georgian leader met with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to reportedly discuss Saakashvili’s upcoming appointment as the governor of the Odessa region in Ukraine’s southwest. The granting of citizenship is the first step toward the nomination.

"Mikheil Saakashvili became the citizen of Ukraine," Mustafa Nayyem, an Afghan-born member of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada parliament, said in a Twitter post.

In February, Poroshenko also signed a decree appointing Saakashvili as his non-staff aide.

Holy hell, what? Can Ukraine get any more screwed up? "Our country is literally days away from complete collapse. Someone call Saakashvili!"

Happy Saturday?
