If you want to understand why the memory of the Great Patriotic War is so vivid in Russia you should definitely listen to this song dedicated to girl and boy who met in a partisan (guerilla) unit resisting fascists.

If it sounds solemn and serious, it’s not! It’s merrily romantic.

Originally this song had nothing to do with anti-fascist resistance. It became popular during WWII (the "Great Patriotic War" for Russians). It is a song that people – young and old - to this day sing when friends and relatives get together at the table for family festivities. Or for the flash mob performance at an appliance shop you’ve just listened to.

We Russians still sing in chorus when we get together for food and drinks. It’s part of our heritage and of our traditional values. Join us!
