Former Ukrainian President, Viktor Yushchenko, has stated that Western assistance given to Ukraine has been both inadequate and ineffective.
According to the former President, Ukraine is in desperate need of a new long-term, Lend-Lease programme.
“I don’t want to talk about hand-outs. I want to talk about a whole programme of Lend-Lease, focused not on one year, or two years, but on many years ahead.” - said the ex-President.
Lend-Lease was a government programme by which the US gave its partners goods such as ammunition, equipment, food stuffs, raw materials and oil products.
Earlier it was announced that the International Monetary Fund had given Ukraine its first financial aid to the sum of five million dollars. Altogether, Ukraine is set to receive up to $17.5 billion in the period up to 2018. Such a high figure is due to the conflict in Donbass, which has brought the country to the edge of bankruptcy.
