At first, art imitates life. Then life will imitate art. Then life will find its very existence from the arts.

Fyodor Dostoevsky

77 years ago the famously entertaining musical-comedy-fantasy-drama film The Wizard of Oz provided the template for the ongoing meme-comedy-fantasy-drama that is the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election.

Near the beginning of the film a magical person tells the heroine of the story to follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, where some mysterious Wizard of Oz might be able to solve her great challenge.

After many trials and adventures the heroine reaches the fabled Emerald City but is disappointed when a threatening display of power and trickery by the Wizard of Oz denies the heroine any assistance in fulfilling the desire that has been propelling her throughout the film.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wizard_of_Oz_(1939_film)#Plot

For so many citizen heroes and heroines following the promised yellow brick road that is the failing and flawed U.S. democratic process and the election of national leaders, this is the week another curtain has been pulled back and the manipulators of so many of our hopes, dreams and promises have been exposed.

On 17 October we got to watch the video of the threatening display of more abuses and trickery that appears to be an integral part of the “Democratic" Party. Then, on 18 October Donald Trump alerted the public via a tweet that the curtain had been pulled back to reveal the true nature of his opponent’s camp.  Finally, on 19 October after the curtain was pulled back, the White House actually thought it was doing damage control by urging the public “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain”.
