Do you trust those eyes? Of course not.
Do you trust those eyes? Of course not.

It's official: The self-appointed foreign collusion police have forgiven themselves for colluding with a foreign government. It was all in the past. To quote Barack Obama after we "tortured some folks": Forward!

Speaking with ABC's Jonathan Karl on Sunday, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) conceded that it would not be appropriate for the Clinton campaign to have accepted help from the Ukrainian government.

Did the Clinton campaign receive some Ukrainian lovin'? As Karl pointed out to Schiff:

This comes from a story in Politico that ran in January, the headline "Ukrainian efforts to sabotage Trump backfire."

"A Ukrainian-American operative who was consulting for the Democratic National Committee met with top officials in the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington in an effort to expose ties between Trump, top campaign aide Paul Manafort and Russia."

The Politico article in question outlines the role of Ukrainian-American DNC consultant Alexandra Chalupa in attempting to expose connections between then-candidate Trump, Paul Manafort, and Russia. Chalupa led the DNC’s opposition research effort into Trump’s connections with Russia, focusing primarily on Paul Manafort.

Karl then teed up a question that should be asked more often but for some reason isn't: "Was it acceptable for the Democrats to accept help from the Ukrainian government in this campaign?” to which Schiff responds, “No, it wouldn’t be appropriate for the Democrats to accept help from the Ukrainian government”.

In a sane world, that would be the end of Schiff's remarks. But obviously Schiff had to weasel in a but: "But if you look at the Politico article…If you accept all the facts in the article, the scale of what the Russians did is not comparable to anything in that article”.

Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, should know better.

There is no documented evidence whatsoever that Russia had any involvement in the US presidential election, unlike the now well-documented involvement of the Ukrainian government with the DNC—so he’s correct in his assertion.

Schiff, complete with bulging eyeballs, continues: “It would be problematic to get any kind of support from a foreign government. But again, I think to compare the two is like a bit like comparing bank robbery with writing a check with insufficient funds. Both appropriate money from the bank improperly, but a very different degree of seriousness and involvement in the case by a foreign government.”

One would hope that this sort of behavior from any political party would warrant at least some soul-searching, if not an outright internal investigation, but as we’re learning more and more every day: it’s not a crime if the DNC does it!
