The author is a famous Russian writer and left-wing activist whose books have been translated into seventeen languages. He reported widely from war torn Donbas, and is there now.

In this excerpt from his diary that originally appeared in his LJ blog he describes a recent police raid in the Kiev controlled town of Krasnogorovka in the Donetsk region.

The Donetsk People’s Republic leader Alexander Zakharchenko had this to say about the raid:

"Nazi executioners mopped up the Donbass in 1943 in the same way. They arrested, seized and pushed people into cars. The motto "we will come to every home" is characteristic of the Kiev regime. This government has launched a punitive action."

It was stupid of the Maidan Ukraine and its special forces to search out and arrest some 85 people a day in Krasnogorovka.

First, it is clear that they are preparing to attack when they threaten anybody who looks at them the wrong way, or who may message across the border that large quantities of armored vehicles are heading toward the line of contact (as if we don’t know this).

Secondly, and this is important, the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Maidan authorities demonstrate what they will do with separatists in Donetsk, if, God forbid, they get there.

We all know what happened in Kharkov, Odessa, Mariupol and Kramatorsk - when hundreds of people suspected of sympathizing with the "Russian Spring", were tortured and killed without trial. Materials on this subject are forthcoming.

The "Militia", who started the war back in Slavyansk, stated yesterday that in the villages and towns of the occupied Donetsk People’s Republic the Ukrainian Armed Forces went out with kill lists, hunted down and summarily executed all those who helped organize the May 2014 referendum on the status of the Donetsk region.

The fact that they seized 85 people that night in Krasnogorovka means only one thing: they are planning a full-fledged genocide in Donetsk.

I assume they have lists, prepared beforehand, of the 85 thousand  current and former militia members, the administrative staff, and the supporters of the separatists and labor heroes. And these 85 thousand have families: there is no end of the work to be done.

If they are willing to freeze and starve without light all of Crimea, which didn’t fight with them, it’s not difficult to imagine what they want to do with Donetsk.

Here in Donetsk, there are people waiting for "the Ukraine to return". Not many, but a significant number of those who left for Ukraine have returned in recent months. They naively think their homes will not be targeted and they themselves come out unscathed.

They dream about "everything returning as it was before’. I wish I could show them just half of what would happen to the city and to them personally…

Of course it would be better if didn’t happen, and the foolish dreamers lived on. After all, they are people too.
